Thank you so much for your interest in our Lincoln Trail Garden - the Edible Schoolyard! The response we have received from our students, our parents, our PTO, and the Mahomet-Seymour community has been amazing. We are so appreciative of those who have already donated their time and talents to this project and to the positive feedback we have received.
In the spring of 2016, we held our first BLAST program here at Lincoln Trail called "Jr. Master Gardeners". The course was led by Daniel Nortman from the 4-H, and Lincoln Trail teachers and LT Garden Committee members Chris Forman and Ben Herriott. Students in Jr. Master Gardeners learned how to garden in our backyards, grow our own food, and make our community more beautiful. Students studied the basics of soil science, insects in our yards, and basic plant care. They also learned how to read seed packets, measured the area of our garden plots to determine plant populations per square foot, and planned and planted our LT Garden. Way to go, BLAST group! We are so proud of each of you!
In the fall of 2016, classrooms are using the LT Garden to help support the New Generation Science Standards (NGSS). For more information about the standards, visit http://www.nextgenscience.org//.
